Marching Band Camp 2009

We are looking forward to this upcoming season with much excitement and enthusiasm. Whether you are spending your summer as a student, working, taking some time off or a combination of the above, I hope that this letter finds you in the midst of a productive, yet relaxing summer break! Whether it be during the summer or during the school year, we are always impressed and inspired by all that you balance with your duties as a student, employee with your job, and as a member of the UH Marching Band. Your commitment and dedication certainly do not go unnoticed.

Coming off a successful 2008 Marching Season, we eagerly look forward to the 2009 marching band season continuing to build upon all our successes! This letter contains important information for both new and returning members.

Our pre-season band camp rehearsal times are especially important due to our limited rehearsal schedule once classes begin. Please arrange your work schedule so you can attend all pre-season rehearsals. In order to be in the first halftime and pre-game show you must attend all rehearsals. As is the case during the school year, work does not constitute an excused absence. If you are from a neighbor island or mainland and unable to attend these rehearsals, please contact us immediately. When classes begin our regular rehearsal schedule is from 3:45 PM - 5:15 PM Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

All members should reference the enclosed order form. As was the case last year, please be aware of the hat and flip folder portion of the order form. Our UH Marching Band cap is a required part of the uniform in the stands. Flip folders are required at all rehearsals. If you do not own a flip folder, please order one!

Important Uniform Information:

  1. Black Shoes (Black shoes MUST be purchased through the Band Office - black shoes purchased elsewhere will not be acceptable. Please see attached order form.)
  2. Band T-Shirt (This shirt MUST be worn at all game day rehearsals and underneath the formal uniform. There will be times when we play in the stands without the jacket. This shirt, along with our hat, ensures that we all look uniform.) Note: The t-shirt this year is new, that means that everyone needs to order a t-shirt and pep band polo shirt. This is because the band t-shirts are now being sponsored by Under Armour.
  3. New members: (Our "informal" uniform for pep band, pep rallies, and on campus events is our green golf shirt with black "creased" pants and black shoes. The golf shirt may be ordered via the attached order form.

Important: Your order form is due to the band office by Friday, July 10, 2009.

Music Pick up and Instrument Check out

Music packet pick-up and school owned instrument check out is set for the following dates and times: Wednesday, August 5 from 3 to 6 pm and Thursday, August 6 from 3 to 6 pm

If you are interested in percussion or color guard and have not heard from your captain yet, please contact us immediately at 956-7657. Please keep this letter, order form, and 2009 season schedule for reference throughout the season. Also, as a reminder, the course number for marching band is MUS 419E - Marching Band. If you know of anyone who is interested in becoming a member of the UH Rainbow Warrior Marching Band please let us know or have them call Gwen at 956-7657. We look forward to seeing you once again on Sunday, August 16 at 2:30 pm for another season filled with growth, fun, pride and performance excellence!
