Meet the Staff



George Matsumoto - Operations Manager

George Matsumoto is a 1985 graduate of McKinley High School.  While a student, Mr. Matsumoto had been involved in various positions with the University of Hawaii Bands, including equipment manager, office staff, library help, and field staff for the Hula Bowl Band. He received his Bachelors degree in Economics from the University of Hawaii in 1990. Mr. Matsumoto has also been an on-air personality and morning show producer with various radio stations including KIKI-AM and I-94.


Steve Dulce - Voice of the UH Marching Band

From the flashing lights of Tokyo's Ginza to the glitter of Las Vegas, entertainment has enabled Steve Dulce to travel and appear on stages worldwide. First appearing as a singer in nightclubs in Hawaii in the early sixties, his career spans over three decades in the field of entertainment as a performer, a producer, and a director. He has served as the Entertainment Director for the Hawaii State Farm since 1972 and as the "Voice of the UH Marching Band" since 1970!


Galutau Aga - Percussion Advisor

A 1997 Waipahu High School Graduate, Galu has been part of the UH Marching Band for almost a decade. This is his second year as Percussion Advisor. Galu is also active in helping at different high schools. This year he is the Percussion Instructor at Punahou Academy. Galu also plays percussion and drumset in theater productions. More recent productions include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Children of Eden.


Marcelo Pacleb - Rainbow Dancer Director

We are pleased to have Marcelo Pacleb return as the Director of our famous Rainbow Dancers. He was the Director from 1988-1990. Mr. Pacleb is a very accomplished dancer and instructor. He has won numerous awards including Best Director in the Summer Snapp competition, two Best Choreography titles in the local competition Dance Expo and two Pookela Awards for choreography in a musical, Hawaii's equivalent to the Tony Award. As one of Hawaii's most versatile choreographers, he has choreographed over 30 Musicals and produced shows such as The Stardancer, The Star of Honolulu, The Don Ho Show, and Tihati's Creation. He is the founder and Director of 24-VII Danceforce Company.


Justin Hunter - Graduate Assistant

Justin Hunter is a graduate of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR were he received his BA in Music and Masters of Music in 2007 and 2009 respectively. Justin is currently pursuing a PhD in Ethnomusicology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa where he specializes in the music of Japan. After spending four years with the University of Arkansas Razorback Bands he decided to focus more on academia and has been away from the band world for some time. Incidentally his Masters dissertation was on the introduction of marching military band music into Japan in the mid-nineteenth century. Though his research has centered on band, he has not actively performed in some time. So he is very excited to be back in the band and is quite proud to be a part of the University of Hawaii Bands. Justin is an alumnus of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia - National Music Fraternity and is professionally affiliated with the Society for Ethnomusicology, British Forum for Ethnomusicology, and the International Council for Traditional Music.


Taryn Lau - Color Guard Advisor

Taryn Lau graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Family Resources from the UH in 2001, and recently received Masters of Social Work degree from UH in 2009. She is currently working for Hawaii Pacific Health as a meetings coordinator for the state's Child Welfare Services. Taryn as served as color guard advisor at Kalani High School for 5 years, helped establish the guard program at Kapolei for 3 years, and advised at Punahou Academy for 4 years. As a high school student, she placed in the top three of the Hula Bowl All-Star Color Guard in her junior and senior years. As a member of the UH Color Guard, Taryn was appointed as Hula Bowl Color Guard Advisor in her freshmen and sophomore years, and was appointed to serve as Captain of the UH Color Guard in her junior and senior years.
