Annual Rainbow Invitational Marching Festival
An annual event since 1979, the Rainbow Invitational is the largest showcase for Hawaii high school marching bands in an educational, non-competitive setting. Sixteen to twenty bands, occasionally including groups from Japan or the mainland, present their field shows to an appreciative audience of 7,000 to 10,000. Mainland judges, nationally renowned for their expertise in marching band, give constructive and practical feedback on each performance. Bands are provided with tapes of the judges' comments and a video tape of their performance. Bands compete only against standards of excellence - - not each other. Festival ratings (Superior, Excellent, Good) are awarded, and participation trophies are presented at the conclusion of the festival. These aspects of the Invitational are especially attractive to the directors of both developing and established programs who believe that the purpose of the school marching band should be primarily educational.
We'd love for you to join us next year! The festival will be held on Monday, November 12, 2007 at Aloha Stadium at 5:30 PM. For information on becoming a participant in the 2007 Rainbow Invitational, contact Brandt Payne, UH Marching Band Director.
